You figure it out

Contemporary art can sometimes be difficult to understand. But when you are three it makes perfect sense. Random colors, designs, strange videos of ocean shipping channels in China being projected on walls in a dark room, giant sculptures of chrome blobs, carbon scribbles on a giant canvas, hanging terrariums with holes cut in the bottom to stick your head in. Art is about interpretation and there is no better medium to interpret art than a child.

"Whats that Charlotte?" asks dad as they look at what seems to be a random wall painted with colorful shapes.
"Ohh that is a camp." says Charlotte, completely sure of her answer.

There is no better place to have your child experience a museum than the Mass Museum of Contemporary Art aka MOCA. Lots of floors, lots of exhibits, the one thing missing is the stuffy hush hush attitude that so many museums hold. Its a museum folks, not a library. I never really understood why you have to be quiet to enjoy art.

Giant video of a tree that moves in the breeze.

We aren't sure about this one. But Charlotte loved being in it.

Giant room with even bigger sculptures

Sculpture up close.

If you stare at it long enough you can see flowers and people in the fields...or not.

Looks like a pretty boring wall.

Until you get closer.

That is a lot of scribbles!

A whole different world.
Cement and rebar flowing in harmony. Huh?
The girls loved it.

Charlotte and Maeve loved it. Of course mom and dad loved it too. The only thing better was the jaunt to Jacks Hot Dog Shop down the street from the Moca to get a stack of mini hot dogs.

Law of crawling

Dad had a theory today that has been proven. Maeve is crawling.

It's not pretty. It's not graceful, but it is a crawl. Dad witnessed it first this this morning as Maeve was crawling towards him. It wasn't far, maybe 3 feet, so he wasn't 100% sure if it counted as a crawl. Thus the Maeve Crawling theory (actually it would have been an hypothesis).

However, throughout the day mom and Charlotte have witnessed this feat. Proving it as a scientific fact and creating the Maeve Law of Crawling.

The excitement was very short lived when we found Maeve in the kitchen eating miscellaneous scraps of food that dad dropped while making marinara sauce. Oh the dreaded worry about baby proofing the house has begun. We were lucky with Charlotte that she really didn't care to get into things. Maeve on the other hand seems to have a serious curiosity streak. Ugh.

To top things off we have what feels like snowstorm number 600 today. Why oh why do we live in New Hampshire? In reality we could live just about anywhere but we are here, in the lovely hinterland of the north. I hope and pray the girls will love skiing, otherwise we are going to have to cash it in and head south. Judging by Charlottes recent sledding escapade, she will be just fine in the snow. She can take a wipeout off the sled, face plant into the snow to get a 'wicked' whitewash with the best of them.

8 Months

Hard to believe Marvelous Maeve turned 8 months old over the weekend. We celebrated her 8 month birthday with a trip to the mall. Ohhh sooo exciting. Maeve continues to be extremely content. Happy to just be out and about, soaking it all in. She is growing quickly and that is not suprising judging by how much she eats. It is one of her favorite things to do (second to bathing). She has graduated from baby food to steak and red wine. Not really, but she has moved on to Oatie O's (no they are not generic cheerios, they are healthy cheerios) and whole rice bread. Not to mention whole banana and whatever else she can get her hands on. This morning Charlotte was eating a bowl of rice krispies next to her and Maeve quickly dug her hand in, grabbed a fistfull of wet rice krispies, and shoved them in her mouth. She is quick. You have to watch your food around her or else it will be gone. She has also learned to clap and dance. Its not pretty but its dancing. We are trying to catch it on video, but no luck so far. Other honorable mentions include almost crawling and going from all fours into a sit up position ( you know the move if you are a parent) and her bottom tooth finally popped through! Oh and of course there are the pigtails. This girl has some LONG hair!
